Your WRDECE Local is always looking for Stewards and encourages all interested members (Permanent, Long Term Occasional and Daily Occasional DECEs) to volunteer.
The WRDECE Local established Stewards in 2017. It was and remains our goal to have a Steward representative in all of our schools. A Steward is an advocate on behalf of ETFO members, a communicator and a union leader. The Steward is ETFO’s visible representation in the workplace, someone who welcomes new members and represents a positive union presence. We see many rewards and advantages to having a Steward in each school. They are the eyes and ears of the Local in each individual workplace. Having an on site colleague who has detailed knowledge of where to access information for members is invaluable. Stewards post and or distribute Local and Provincial information. A colleague to hold ETFO meetings with DECEs to provide updates and share information keeps everyone informed. Members in difficulty can rely on their Steward, who is also an on-site co-worker, to direct them to assistance. The Steward helps members find what they need in ETFO’s service areas both provincially and locally.
While each workplace should have a Steward, ideally the Steward will also draw on the talents and skills of co-workers. A team approach makes the best use of human resources and promotes continued active participation in ETFO by its members.
Have you ever wanted to get more involved in the union?
The WRDECE Local is looking for members who would be interested in volunteering for this role in their school. Training will be provided for those interested in becoming a Steward.
If you are interested in becoming a Steward for your school, or would like more information, please send an email to Candice Gwinn at [email protected] with the subject line: STEWARD INTEREST
